Waterproofing swimming pools has unique requirements. Not only must it provide a suitable substrate for subsequent liners, it also has to resist both positive- and negative-side water pressure. In addition, it must offer crack-bridging capabilities, as these structures are subject to significant settlement. The KÖSTER system designed and implemented for swimming pool waterproofing has a long and proven track record.
The system is applied to substrates that are sound, solid, and free from bond-inhibiting agents. As a primer, KÖSTER Polysil TG 500 is used. It hardens the substrate and reduces the mobility of salts.
To prevent stresses in the subsequent waterproofing layers, a fillet is installed at the wall/floor junction using KÖSTER WP Mortar.
Negative-side waterproofing is carried out with KÖSTER NB 1 Grey. In cases of pressurized water, the waterproofing must be executed using the KÖSTER KD System.
Positive-side waterproofing is performed with crack-bridging systems such as KÖSTER NB Elastic Grey or KÖSTER NB 4000. These waterproofing materials are resistant to foot traffic and can be covered with tiles. They also provide excellent adhesion to damp substrates. To improve resistance to movement, the installation of KÖSTER Glass Fiber Mesh between the first and second waterproofing layers is recommended.
Tiling can then be carried out using the single-component, flexible adhesive KÖSTER BD Flexible Tile Adhesive.
Pipe penetrations are waterproofed with KÖSTER KB-Flex 200 and sealed with KÖSTER KB-Fix 5. Joints are sealed using KÖSTER Joint Sealant FS.
Always adhere to the specifications in the respective Technical Data Sheets.
